#118: how does your garden grow?
My friend Kim (different one) said she might be headed over
to the herb festival tomorrow, and I said, "oooh! the herb
festival!" I think the only time I went was with her and her
sister a few years ago. We had a long day schlepping a wagon
and examining plants, and I got some really bizarre flowers
that I couldn't resist. So I thought I'd like to go.
Going to the herb festival means one needs the space to plant.
So at 10:30, after Kim and I walked the neighborhood and ate
a spinach muffin, I did the annual herb garden dig. I usually
plant the tomatoes here, and I go through a bit of turmoil
digging up each year. My dog, Buddha, is buried there.
I don't believe I will disturb the dead or the bones. I worry I
will disturb my memories if I were to dislodge something. But
I plod on.
It took three hours to dig all the crap out of there, clean the
birdbath, and install a new pump. And now my plot is plant
ready. (I even mowed the grass and edged this afternoon!)
Vines on Brick
We went to Starbucks this morning so Mel could re-acclimate (there is a Starbucks in Belfast). While we were there, I used my handheld computer to sketch vines on brick. I will soon be painting vines against the brick of the house in the painting I am working on for my friends. Although my friends have sent me some black and white photos of the vines, I didn't have them with me, so I just worked from what I remembered. I was trying to see how different colors in the leaves might look against brick. Later on, I loaded the image into my computer at home, opened it in Painter IX, and cleaned it up a little bit. Having a painting program in my handheld computer helps me make art every day. Today, I used it to make coffee time into time to make art.
